The Coaching-Centre App Gap: 2026 Report

By Ritesh, founder of Keelwork Studio · Updated

The short answer
In October 2026 we checked 35 established coaching, tutoring and training businesses in Australia and the UAE. Only 2 had an app of their own: 1 of 20 in Australia and 1 of 15 in the UAE. Half of the Australian colleges (10 of 20) already run a student portal or LMS without an app, while 11 of 15 UAE centres point students to WhatsApp from their website.

What it means

  • Australia is portal-first. Half the colleges already pay for digital delivery through a portal or LMS, but students reach it on a laptop. The natural next step is the same material on their phones.
  • The UAE is WhatsApp-first. Most centres coordinate with students and parents over WhatsApp, where notes are easy to forward and hard to keep organised. A branded app keeps material in one place, behind a login.
  • Demand is large in both markets. Around 15,000–17,000 students sit the NSW selective test each year for about 4,200 places, and about 1,800–1,900 students sat NEET in the UAE in 2026, the largest NEET testing destination outside India.

Contrast: Dubai property developers

We ran the same check on 17 Dubai and UAE property developers. 14 already had customer apps, many with a second app for brokers. Coaching is one of the few established, fee-earning sectors where most businesses still have no app of their own.

Method

  1. We compiled established coaching and tutoring businesses from public lists, directories and search results, favouring multi-branch and well-known centres.
  2. For each, we scanned the homepage for App Store and Google Play links, student-portal or LMS keywords, and WhatsApp links, respecting each site's robots.txt.
  3. We searched Apple's App Store (UAE and Australia storefronts) by name and confirmed matches by the seller's website or name. Apps linked from a centre's site were confirmed through Apple's lookup API.
  4. Businesses whose websites couldn't be read were excluded (1 in each country).

Limitations

  • The sample is curated, not random, and leans towards larger, better-known centres. These are the ones most likely to have an app, so the true share without an app may be higher.
  • Android-only apps are detected only when linked from the centre's website.
  • This is a snapshot from October 2026. We plan to re-run it quarterly.
